WE LOVE OUR COMMUNITY!
On Sunday the 7th of May, PhysioWest was a very excited and enthusiastic sponsor of Salisbury.RUN – a fun run event hosted in Carisbrooke Park in Salisbury. The run had several events, including a 2km, a 5km, a 10km run, and a half marathon at 21.1kms! A total of 660 runners registered to participate, which is outstanding. Including 3 of our team members!
Our therapist and client services team sponsored and volunteered at the Salisbury.RUN event. We hosted a tent with our therapists and massage beds ready for those incoming runners, all eager for a free massage after all their efforts. We had products on offer, and a major remedial massage giveaway competition. Safe to say, we had so much fun supporting an amazing event, amazing community, and rewarding some amazing efforts.
We’d love to tell you a little bit more about it…
The weather absolutely turned one on for the morning. Not a cloud in the sky, sun absolutely beaming, but still a fresh and crisp bite to the air; it was perfect conditions for the runners and the volunteers. Never mind the forecasted rain! A huge credit also needs to be given to the maintainers of the park, it was lush and green. Between that and the weather it looked an absolute picture.
Importantly, we have a few people to commemorate… Firstly, we’d like to extend our congratulations to all the runners who participated in the event! Whether you participated in the 2km or the 21.1km event, we are so proud of your efforts and you all did amazing on Sunday! A huge well done and thank you to all the event coordinators and volunteers that made the event possible. It was such a great event. The morning ran smoothly, it was exciting and there was nothing but good vibes. Thanks to the other main sponsors of the event, City of Salisbury, MoveOT, Bickfords, Sportspower (selected branches), Pick a Local SA, First Security Response, for the collective effort and support that helped make the event a success. And thanks to Fisiocrem, for supporting us with our sponsorship and providing us with free samples to hand out (safe to say the runners jumped at the stuff!).
To everyone that entered our remedial massage giveaway competition, GOOD LUCK! Our fingers and (blistered) toes are crossed for you. Winner drawn tomorrow morning, 11/5/23! Keep an eye out on our socials to see the winner…
We also got to introduce our newest recruit, Kana, to our community! Kana is a very experienced remedial massage therapist that is joining our team. She so kindly volunteered her time to join the therapy team on Sunday and provide free massages to the runners. All before she has even started in the clinic! It is clear that she is a wonderful addition to our team and we hope that the runners will pop into the clinic to see her again. She starts at our Saints clinic on the 15th of May – she is booking up fast so get in quick! Run, don’t walk! *pun-intended*
A special mention to Bec, Lauren and Sarah who ran in the 2km event before jumping in with the rest of the team in the PhysioWest tent! What a great effort to get out there on a Sunday morning to not only volunteer their time but to also participate. It’s great to see the team be a part of the community AND support the community. Lauren and Sarah grabbed their medals and then swiftly moved to their massage tables to provide free massages to the runners that were coming through the tent. Another big thanks and well done to Bec who not only facilitated PhysioWest’s whole contribution to the day, but also participated in the run and then supported the team and the event throughout the morning all whilst immersing herself in the community. What absolute legends!
Some of our team that attended have shared their personal experiences of the day below:
Sarah – Physiotherapist
“It was fantastic to be able to get out there and get involved in the event. Having a go at the 2km event really gave us an appreciation for everyone who competed, from 2km to the half marathon! We got to hear so many inspiring stories from runners at all stages of their journeys – from the newbies doing their first race, to the seasoned runners who are travelling around Australia to compete in every event. Most importantly it was great to see people getting out there and giving it a go, running is a great way to be active and stay healthy!”
Taya – Client Services Team
“I expected a great morning for the Salisbury.Run, but my high expectations were exceeded! Perfect conditions, a perfect spot, and a perfect team. The best part was hearing everyone’s personal stories. What I didn’t expect on Sunday was to hear quite so many achievements and goals! There are some seriously inspiring people in the community. I have nothing but respect and total admiration for the people that get involved in events like these, whether running or volunteering. We can’t wait to do more stuff like this!”
Caitlin – Client Services Team
“You may have seen me behind our stand or walking around chatting to runners with posters or even at the finish line getting photos/videos. My name’s Caitlin and I’m a part of the Client Services Team at PhysioWest and I had a smile on my face the whole day pretty much. It was definitely a very cold morning with a coffee & tea here and there however, extremely rewarding to be out in our community and supporting all of the runners! I’ve lived in the Northern suburbs all my life and being out in the community hearing everyone’s stories was inspiring and motivational. It was also amazing to hear from the other volunteers on the day, our neighbours at the event, the show bag volunteers got to the event bright and early and packed 800 bags for all the runners! Truly amazing how the community can come together for a good cause. I really hope to come back next year!”
Bec & Grant – Co-Directors
“Congratulations to all the runners, coordinators, sponsors and volunteers on this years Salisbury.RUN! We are super grateful to have been a sponsor for 2023. At PhysioWest we love getting out and about in the community and we hope to see everyone in the clinic sometime soon. So much fun had in what was an amazing morning.”
A part of getting out in the community, is getting to know the community. And speaking of inspiring stories…
We met one lady that ran the full Great Wall of China a few years ago – how amazing is that! What a huge achievement made in such a memorable place.
A different lady, who is 64 years old, told us that she is preparing to compete in the New York City Marathon 2023! Such an amazing woman and an amazing message that can be taken from her story.
Another group of runners are travelling around Australia to complete a half marathon in every single state in Australia! We wish them all the best and fingers crossed that they can all achieve their goal. They were such an inspiring group of people and such good role models for their close and wider community.
Similarly, a different group of ladies have set a goal to complete a half marathon every month for a year! Good luck to them, we are so sure they’ll smash their goal. Maybe they’ll even move onto full marathons next year?
The Northern Districts Jets Athletics Group are a club that welcomes anyone and everyone. Their club and their members participated in a number of the events on Sunday. Running as individuals, but surrounded by their supportive team. It is such a great way to participate in events like these and we highly recommend joining them if you love running and are in the area. Not to mention that they have members from early childhood to 90 years old! We met a couple of their members over 90 years old that participated on Sunday. If you weren’t feeling inspired yet, I assume you are now!
Have you heard of Park Run? There were groups of runners that are trying to complete every single Park Run in Australia. They will seriously clock up some kilometres on their journey, by foot and by travelling! Plus, they’re participating in other running events, like Salisbury.Run. We’re puffed (but in total admiration) just thinking about it.
A few ladies that came through the tent together were telling us about a holiday they have coming up… but , it wasn’t just any holiday. As a group they plan their next holidays based on upcoming running events, so they can relax, rejuvenate, and run! Not your usual holiday, but perhaps it should be? Either way, we love your stuff ladies.
We met a man who is not a regular runner, but occasionally volunteers his time at events like this and participates to be a part of his community. He ran the 10km event with his mate by his side. We can’t believe he doesn’t normally run, and are so proud of his efforts and attitude.
And last but certainly not least, the event volunteers got up at crazy early hours of the morning to put together 800 goodie bags for all of the runners! A mammoth effort from these guys who we were lucky enough to be neighbours with on Sunday morning. They looked after the runners (and us) so well.
That wraps up our recap of Salisbury.RUN for 2023… Again, congratulations and thank you to everyone that coordinated and participated in this fantastic event. See you all there next year!
