When working with patients, I like to focus on educating and empowering people in two key areas; finding relief and achieving goals. First up, what is it that you want to get back to doing, or what goals can we aim to achieve together? Secondly, what strategies and treatment can we put in place to get you comfortable and without pain, to help reach those goals in a safe way?
Having graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at UniSA, I spent the first few years of my career in private practice, as well as working at private hospitals across Adelaide. After joining PhysioWest, I now work in and help coordinate our Home Visit service, as well as mentor our physios through our professional development program.
As a kid I played lots of soccer and cricket, and made a few trips to the physio for the odd niggle. I remember admiring the physio I went to see for his friendly manner and education regarding my injuries, and thought physio could be a pathway for me.
It was only once I started studying and then working as a physio, that I realised the broad scope of opportunities we have outside the classic sporting context. Although I still love my sport, I now really enjoy working patients post surgery, helping them regain day to day function and reach their goals.
When I started up with PhysioWest, the welcoming nature and team environment was a real drawcard for me. There is also a strong drive towards ongoing learning and development at the clinic, which really encourages us to push each other to get the best for our patients.
Outside of work I like to keep active, playing soccer through the winter and golf in the summer which keeps me quite busy. I also enjoy cooking so if there is a spare Sunday arvo with the sun out, I’ll often be in the backyard firing up some seafood over charcoals with friends and family.
