Our physios use musculoskeletal physiotherapy techniques - that is treatment of muscle, joint and neural conditions. Your musculoskeletal physiotherapist can provide you with strategies to best manage your injury or condition. We can also assist in establishing programs that will improve your flexibility, muscle strength, quality of movement and posture.
What to expect from your initial appointment
Your first appointment at PhysioWest involves an assessment, thorough physical examination and discussion with you about your medical and injury history. The physical examination will involve a series of muscle, joint and nerve tests, along with hands on assessment of the problem area. All examinations are very detailed and thorough to ensure we reach can accurate diagnosis and provide you with a treatment plan.
Common Physiotherapy Treatments
Mobilisation: gentle and repeated stretching of spinal and limb joints, aiming to restore normal joint mobility and relieve pain
Manipulation: localised thrust techniques, aiming to restore normal range of movement
Soft-tissue Massage: deep soft tissue pressure, aiming to relax muscles, promote blood flow and relieve pain
Dry Needling: using fine, sterile needles, trigger points are released throughout the body, similar to acupuncture - compared to acupuncture, dry needling is more directly concerned with treating specific neuro-muscular problems causing pain
Acupuncture: one of the oldest treatments in the world, it is an effective, natural form of health care that involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific sites along the body's meridians to clear energy blockages and encourage the normal blood flow through the individual

Postural Advice: information for you to improve your posture
Taping/Bracing: use of fixed bracing and taping techniques for a range of conditions including fractures and sports injuries
